Terms of Service

Last updated: February 27, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using CampusWash ("Platform"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform. These Terms form a binding contract between you and CampusWash, Inc. ("CampusWash," "we," "us," or "our").

2. Definitions

"Users" are individuals using the Platform. "Washers" are Users who provide laundry services. "Requests" or "Jobs" refer to laundry service transactions arranged via the Platform.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a student at a participating campus with a valid .edu email to register. You represent you are legally capable of forming contracts. We reserve the right to verify eligibility and refuse service to anyone who fails to meet these criteria.

4. Service Description

CampusWash operates a two-sided marketplace connecting Users and Washers on college campuses. We do not provide laundry services ourselves and have no affiliation with any university. CampusWash simply facilitates connections: after a User books a Job, the User and Washer agree on the services and terms of the transaction. CampusWash is not a party to the laundry service agreement.

5. Independent Contractor

Washers are independent contractors, not employees or agents of CampusWash. CampusWash does not hire, supervise, or pay Washers except via marketplace payments. Washers set their own schedules and use their own equipment. (California's "ABC test" under AB-5 presumes a worker is an employee unless all three conditions are met. CampusWash will not control Washers' methods, and laundry services are outside our own business, to support this independent-contractor status.)

6. Platform Role and Liability

CampusWash is a technology platform only. We do not guarantee or oversee the quality, safety, or legality of any laundry service. We are not responsible for items lost, damaged, or stolen during laundry. We do not perform background checks on Washers, and Users must exercise care when leaving laundry. By using the Platform, you accept all risk for the laundry service.

7. User Responsibilities

Users must:

  • (a) provide accurate information about laundry items and care instructions,
  • (b) use washable garment bags or bins,
  • (c) be present or available during scheduled pickup and delivery times,
  • (d) treat Washers respectfully, and
  • (e) cancel Jobs promptly if needed.

Users must not submit prohibited items (see Sec. 9).

8. Washer Responsibilities

Washers agree to perform laundry services professionally and carefully:

  • (a) follow care labels and instructions,
  • (b) handle items with reasonable care,
  • (c) complete Jobs promptly,
  • (d) update the job status accurately (e.g., "picked up," "completed"), and
  • (e) report any issues immediately.

Washers should not offer to alter prices or services outside the Platform's process. We recommend Washers maintain personal insurance for liability or damage.

9. Prohibited Items/Activities

Users must not include hazardous materials, biohazards, illegal items, or valuables (items over $500) in laundry. CampusWash may remove or suspend accounts for violations. Both parties agree not to use the Platform for illegal purposes, harassment, fraud, or to alter the Platform's operation.

10. Payments (Stripe Connect)

All payments flow through a third-party processor (e.g. Stripe). We do not store full credit card details. Users authorize CampusWash to collect payment on their behalf when a Job is booked. CampusWash may charge a service fee or commission as disclosed in-app. Washers will receive payouts through the processor after the Job is marked complete. CampusWash is not a bank and does not hold funds; we only facilitate transactions between Users and Washers.

11. Refund and Cancellation Policy

Users may cancel Jobs as follows:

  • If canceled >2 hours before pickup, User receives a 100% refund of any payment made.
  • If canceled <2 hours before pickup, User receives a 50% refund (50% is retained as a cancellation fee).
  • If User cancels after pickup but before washing starts, a 50% refund is issued.
  • No refund once washing has begun.

Frequent cancellations undermine the service. Users with high cancellation rates may be warned, temporarily suspended, or reviewed. Washers may also cancel but should do so sparingly. In all cases, refunds are at CampusWash's discretion consistent with this policy.

12. Liability for Loss or Damage (Recommended Cap)

Users and Washers are responsible for their own property and actions. CampusWash does not guarantee results. In the event of a laundry mishap (lost, damaged, stained items), a User may claim damages up to a limited cap. We recommend capping damage claims at the greater of $100 or the total fees paid by the User in the last 3 months. This approach (used by other platforms) balances fairness and risk.

Liability Cap OptionAdvantagesDisadvantages
$100 per JobSimple; covers minor losses; aligns with CA small-claims thresholdMay be too low for significant damage
$500 per JobMore generous protection; used by some platformsStill may not cover high-value losses
Fees paid in last 3 months (recommended)Scales with usage; fair for frequent usersCap varies by user; could be high for heavy users
Fees paid in last 6 monthsSimilar to Poplin's method (greater cap)Could be very high, increasing CampusWash's risk

13. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, not in court, except that you may still bring qualifying claims in small claims court. The arbitration will be conducted by a neutral arbitrator (e.g. AAA, JAMS) under the Federal Arbitration Act. This includes disputes about payments, services, or any policy terms. You waive any class action or jury trial rights. (Note: Employment claims, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, and PAGA claims are not subject to this clause.) This Section applies except to any claims exempt under law.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, CampusWash's total liability for any claim is capped. We recommend capping liability at the greater of: (1) $100, or (2) the total fees paid by the User in the preceding 3 months. This mirrors approaches by other platforms (e.g. Poplin caps at the greater of $500 or 6 months' fees). CampusWash is not liable for incidental, consequential, or exemplary damages (such as lost profits, lost data, or emotional distress).

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CampusWash and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims or damages arising from your actions, breach of these Terms, or misuse of the Platform.

16. Intellectual Property

All CampusWash trademarks, logos, text, and code are our property. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our intellectual property without permission. Any feedback you provide becomes our property. Washers grant us a license to display photos or descriptions of laundry listings on the Platform.

17. Termination

CampusWash may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms or illegal activity. You may delete your account from the Settings page at any time, which will de-activate your account and initiate data deletion (see Privacy Policy). Upon termination, any outstanding Jobs or payments will be handled according to the policies above (no refunds for Jobs already in progress).

18. Modifications

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes (e.g. via email or in-app notice). Continued use of the Platform after notice constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will not apply changes retroactively.

19. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by California law. Any arbitration or legal action will be in California.
